“Every communication is an opportunity to perform,” said Rob Biesenbach, a professional communicator, actor and presenter, who delivered our program last Wednesday. “Speeches, town hall meetings, blog posts, videos, job interviews, networking – they’re all improved when you play to your audience and tell stories.”

His theory proved true, as Rob delivered an exciting and interactive presentation full of real-world stories from his days spent with Ogilvy in Chicago and as an independent practitioner.

His program, titled “Act like You Mean Business: Lessons for Success from Stage and Screen,” taught us how to use the actor’s toolkit to create more effective, engaging communications. Personally, my favorite was the idea to consider who you are before writing. Ask: Do you want to be the protagonist, the devil’s advocate, or someone else in the cast? Once you’ve defined those stakes, then you can move on to your audience.

To hear more of Rob’s ideas, listen to the podcast interview he gave to IABC technology VP Steve Lubetkin to preview his presentation.
