Summary:
The Assistant Director is a key member of the College’s centralized communications function, and will contribute to, support and execute the development of related strategies, processes and policies. This role develops and delivers content that supports the communications and marketing needs of the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science, and enhances the visibility of the College through the creation and maintenance of a steady stream of topically-focused content, in written and multimedia/visual formats, for internal and external web and social media. The incumbent will serve the College community through celebration of success of faculty researchers, students, and others in the community, and will promote the visibility of these successes to external audiences as well. The Assistant Director will work closely with colleagues inside and outside the College and University to develop and implement the regular distribution of this content through a wide variety of channels. The right individual is fluent in desktop computing as well as current and emerging trends in web and social media, and exhibits a good sense of graphic design and high-quality user experience as it relates to web design.

Accountabilities:
1. Rossin College News Center
o Oversee and maintain the Rossin College News Center; an online vehicle to develop and aggregate content that promotes research and educational innovation across the College to a generally-educated, non-specialist audience
o Build and maintain relationships with faculty and students from all departments to learn about their fields and specific endeavors in order to translate impact to intended audiences
o Interview constituents to write and produce high-quality editorial content that communicates current events and achievements from across the Rossin College
o Develop stories that reflect positively upon Rossin College research and educational progress; manage approval cycle with constituents and proofreading cycle to ensure consistency, quality, and accuracy of published content
o Scan news reader daily for interesting external news items that can efficiently be re-purposed
o Manage content development activities to ensure a generally balanced approach across departments and strategic research fields
2. Multimedia and visualization
o Develop and execute a plan for creating and curating video and photographic resources that complement and extend the College’s storytelling capabilities around selected items
o Utilize specialized design software to create, edit, and optimize digital multimedia
o Partner with subject matter experts from across the faculty to develop and curate other graphical/visual storytelling support as required to help communicate key stories or concepts
3. Content sharing and resyndication
o On an ongoing basis, post and promote news items to Rossin College web and other internal and external venues to enhance visibility
o Understand and employ sound SEO principles to craft posted items in a way that maximizes their visibility with intended audiences
o Based on news items and complementary multimedia, develop and execute integrated usage of all available social media venues to pique audiences’ interest and drive them back to Rossin College web
o Interact and engage with social media users interested in posted news items in a friendly and professional manner, connecting them where relevant to further information
4. Constituent engagement
o Working with colleagues, develop and regularly deploy an internal email series that celebrates and updates community on faculty/student success
o Working with colleagues, develop, coordinate, schedule and deploy electronic newsletters to support communications needs of College and individual Departments
o Work with Department leaders to develop newsletter content and framework that aligns with constituents’ needs/preferences

Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing or related degree required
2. Three for five years related work experience
3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
4. Excellent writing ability and organizational skills
5. Solid analytical, decision making and problem solving skills
6. Solid computer skills with experience using word processing and spreadsheet software
7. Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, county and national criminal background checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance. Based upon the requirements of the position Lehigh may also request credit history reports, motor vehicle checks and professional license/certification verification

Special Considerations:
• This position is funded by soft dollars; there is no severance associated with this position
• Periods of high volume/workload may be required
• Occasional evening, holiday or weekend hours
