Director of External Communications, AmerisourceBergen

This role is responsible for creating and executing a corporate-wide external communication program to enhance AmerisourceBergen’s reputation with its core external stakeholders. Additionally, this role is responsible for building relationships with key external partners, including members of the news media, and acting as a company spokesperson. This role promotes and enhances ABC’s brand, value proposition and commitment to customers through clear and consistent communication.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Develops and executes external communication plans focused on enhancing ABC’s reputation and driving key business objectives. • Develops and fosters an external presence for ABC with core external stakeholders. • Partners with Investor Relations and individual business units to ensure consistent brand messaging across all communication channels. • Trains and develops a group of external spokespeople and deploys individuals to speak on the company’s behalf. • Measures and monitors ABC’s external reputation. • Develops reputation messaging which complements the company’s positioning within the marketplace. • Directs the work of Public Relations agencies and other external firms to ensure consistency of message and successful program implementation. • Builds and manages a thought leadership program to highlight the knowledge of appropriate company leaders across the healthcare industry. • Partners with Human Resources to ensure that charitable donations are coordinated and harnessed for positive mutual impact. • Directs work of various team members, subject matter experts, consultants and vendors as necessary regarding content, design, graphics, print, distribution, inventory and costs of communications materials for projects and initiatives. • Creates communication standards and operating procedures that provide appropriate governance to all external communications.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires a minimum of ten (10) years directly related and progressively responsible experience within a media relations or external corporate communications role. A four year Bachelor’s Degree within Communications, Marketing, or a similar discipline is required. MBA/MA preferred. Requires moderate understanding of pharmaceutical industry and healthcare product distribution. Direct experience as a company spokesperson is strongly preferred.
