Manager, External Communications-24051


External Communications Manager is responsible for managing and executing aspects of external communications for key CSL Behring segments, including select product brands within Commercial Operations, as well as CSL Behring global brand and reputation.

Provide external communications’ strategic counsel and tactical execution for key CSL Behring segments, including select global product brands within Commercial Operations, as well as CSL Behring global brand and reputation.

Actively pitch key journalists, digital publishers and media outlets (traditional and social) on strategic storylines for placements.

Maintain working understanding of: Company strategy, Biopharma and plasma product industries; all CSL Behring products marketed; and competitive landscape.

Establish and maintain collaborative and productive working relationships with members of the CSL global Communications team.

Present external communications plans and recommendations to senior Commercial and Communications management.

Provide content and external communications support to each product website team associated with the areas noted above. Engage in development of content guidelines on same, as needed.

Travel to key medical meetings and Congresses on behalf of the Company, conducting on-site management of all public relations activities.

Research, write and edit product-related content, as needed, for CSL internal publications.

Manage public relations agencies in support of each area noted above, including: Making agency selection recommendations to brand managers, coordinating the briefing, pitching review, selection, contracting and on-boarding process; direct the agency on a day-to-day basis to achieve high quality work product at reasonable cost; track and manage all PR budgets in each area noted above.


Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or Marketing Communications a must. Graduate degree a plus.

5-7 years in external communications/media relations/public relations and at least 3-4 years in pharmaceutical external communications. 2+ years of digital communications/social media experience is required. Possess established relationships with key media outlets and thought leaders. Marketing experience is a plus.

Outstanding writing, editing and research skills are a must. Individual must possess excellent business judgment and relationship-building skills. Individual must also possess ability to identify and leverage public relations and communications trends and new development in the field.

Required travel: Approximately 20%.

The incumbent will have a deep passion and strong execution track record for external communications — including media relations & placements, digital communications/social media and thought leadership. This position will have certain global responsibilities – experience working cross-culturally is a plus. She/he will be a natural collaborator who is results-oriented.
