The Role

As Sr. Marketing Writer, you will be responsible for writing all levels and types of marketing content across media, such as promotional fliers, web pages and videos, detailed proposals, white papers.  Audiences range from sophisticated retirement plan consultants to plan sponsors (HR and CFO) and participants.  You will work with staff and freelance writers to provide editorial direction and oversee consistency with documented positioning and Lincoln voice, as well as overall clarity and effectiveness of content.

Responsibilities

Written Communications

  • Direct and create marketing content (including simple print fliers, whitepapers, presentations, videos, proposals, etc) that is compelling, benefit-oriented, accurate, and consistent with documented positioning and Lincoln voice
  • Applies knowledge of audience needs and attitudes and knowledge of retirement plans and financial topics to influence outcomes
  • Work closely with subject matter experts to research and clarify specialized and technical topics and develop interesting angles and approaches to presenting the content
  • Take a holistic approach to content development; look for opportunities to version content for other media and audiences, and participating as a partner with marketing managers to make content suggestions for their programs and audiences
  • Take an active role in working with legal and compliance to find effective solutions that satisfy requirements but also work in concert with marketing objectives and audience needs

 Verbal Communications

  • Present ideas clearly and persuasively to colleagues and senior management
  • Collaborate with marketing managers, designers, and other functional areas to conceptualize and frame approaches that satisfy marketing objectives

 Innovation Management

  • Monitor effectiveness and seek to continually improve metrics (e.g. click-throughs, usage, etc.) by applying and testing new approaches
  • Be an advocate for effective processes within the Marketing department
  • Actively stay abreast of developments in the industry and trends in marketing communications and social media, continually looking to generate topic ideas and new approaches to the work

 Education

 Undergraduate degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Advertising or related discipline or  4+ years of comparable work experience required

 Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in financial services marketing that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position
  • 6+ years’ relevant work experience in marketing copywriting
  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing persuasive, compelling marketing content for a wide variety of media and audiences
  • Solid knowledge of qualified and non-qualified defined contribution plans and defined benefit plans
  • Proven ability to work as an effective member of a cross-functional teams
  • Proven ability to analyze and synthesize research, spot trends, and ask relevant questions to help clarify and explain complex topics
  • A demonstrated track record of consistently meeting and/or exceeding performance expectations
  • Drives performance targets to completion
