Business Communications Writer

Pep Boys is hiring a Business Communications Writer at our corporate office in Philadelphia!

The Business Communications Writer serves as a communications strategic advisor to two or three major departments in Pep Boys’ corporate office, managing all internal communications activities for those groups. This includes the planning / scheduling, creation and launch of communications to stores and other sites. The Business Communications Manager looks for opportunities to connect messages to the “big picture” and recommends how to tailor them to be most relevant and engaging for each impacted audience. Key responsibilities, qualifications and experience requirements are as follows:

Duties and responsibilities include:
• Establish and maintain relationships with key contacts in assigned departments
• Determine a cadence for touching base with key contacts regarding their communications needs, including attending staff meetings and setting up other regular conversations
• Partner with the Operations team to get the departments’ upcoming communications and / or store action needs represented on Pep Boys’ enterprise planning calendar
• Recommend a communication strategy for each of the projects, programs and events launching to stores and create a comprehensive communication plan, detailing the impacted audiences, appropriate vehicles and timing; also, facilitate cross-departmental collaboration as necessary
• Guide departmental contacts on crafting messages that connect back to the vision and mission of the company as appropriate and are tailored and customized for different audiences
• Identify related internal news opportunities and write feature stories for the intranet home page
• Load and deploy messages via various channels as outlined on communication plans
• Employ a variety of measurement tools to gauge the success / effectiveness of an internal communication campaign or an individual message
• Regularly update the rest of the Communications team on assigned departments’ initiatives
• Review and edit teammates’ work
• Assist with the Communications department’s strategic projects as necessary

Positional requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English or related area
• Three to five years’ experience in corporate / internal communications preferable
• A working knowledge of Excel, Photoshop, PowerPoint and content management systems

Candidates MUST possess:
• Very strong written and oral communication skills
• A firm grasp of grammatical and stylistic standards set by the Associated Press
• An adaptable writing style that can be tailored by audience and medium
• The ability to work independently and show initiative
• The drive and stamina to manage and lead multiple large-scale projects simultaneously
• Very strong interpersonal skills and aptitude establishing and maintaining relationships with partners at all levels of an organization, including senior management
• Resourcefulness to get information and see projects through even if roadblocks are encountered
