Gift of Life Donor Program, the non-profit agency serving the eastern half of Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware, is responsible for recovering and distributing organ, tissues, bone and cornea used in life-saving and life-enhancing transplants.
As a member of the senior management team, the Community Relations Director develops the department’s annual budget and strategic plan, evaluates community relations programs, and manages a staff of 17 professionals. The Community Relations Director oversees all aspects of Gift of Life’s community outreach and education program including media relations, volunteer coordination, grass roots education programs, minority affairs, paid and public service advertising campaigns, marketing communications, special events and public affairs or legislative affairs activities.
The Community Relations Director:
Oversees and implements grass roots educational programs, special events, school education programs, and corporate partnership to educate residents in Gift of Life’s region about organ and tissue donation. Implements paid and public service advertising programs to promote organ and tissue donation.
Responds to all inquiries from regional and national media and serves as spokesperson for Gift of Life Donor Program on routine media stories, working with the President and CEO to respond to extraordinary media stories or opportunities.
Oversees external communications program the production of brochures, publications and marketing communications and including social media programming. Develops legislation and responds to legislative opportunities to advance the goals of Gift of Life Donor Program and interacts with Government and Regulatory officials.
Oversees volunteer staffing, Family Support Services and special programs to pay tribute to and recognize Gift of Life’s donor families and volunteers.
Bachelor degree in public relations, journalism, marketing, or public affairs and minimum of five years related experience. Must have experience in supervising staff, budget development and implementation, program development and management. Excellent writing and presentation skills and experience working with graphic designers on publication an collateral development. Familiarity with regional media and hands-on experience working with media also required. Knowledge of internet applications, desktop publishing and familiarity with web design also required. Experience in health care environment preferred.
