IABC Philadelphia Elects New Chapter Leadership

PHILADELPHIA, PA—The Board of Directors of IABC Philadelphia has elected Michael Smith as chapter president, where he will oversee strategic direction, programming, education and fundraising initiatives for the membership trade group of communications professionals who live or work in southeastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware. The Board also elected Alexandra “Alex” Spooner, as President-elect, who will begin her two-year term beginning in 2021.

“I’m honored to be stepping into this role for IABC Philadelphia and supported by a terrific team of board leaders who are dedicated to making a positive impact for our members through programming and resources designed to expand their impact as business communicators,” said Smith.

“IABC Philadelphia is a fantastic group of professionals who share a passion for all things communications and a desire for continuous learning,” Spooner said. “I look forward to working with Michael and our fellow board members on new ways to meet the needs of, and provide value to, our chapter’s members.”

Smith is the Corporate Director of Communications for Acts Retirement-Life Communities, one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit providers of senior housing and services, where he leads internal and external communications strategies including brand communications, executive and employee communications, public relations, digital and social media, and crisis communications. Smith has more than 20 years of corporate communications and public relations leadership experience in both the private and nonprofit fields. He is a graduate of Temple University and a member of the International Association of Business Communicators and the Public Relations Society of America.

Spooner serves as Director of Communications at AmeriGas, the nation’s largest retail propane marketer. A business communicator for more than 14 years, she specializes in internal communications.
