National Director of Communications
The Devereux External Affairs office, located in Villanova, PA has an immediate opening for an experienced, enthusiastic, and creative professional to join our team as a National Director of Communications, supporting the Senior Vice President for External Affairs, in directing Devereux’s communications and public relations initiatives to ensure that they effectively describe and promote the organization and its services. This position is integral to the operation of a multifunctional department of external affairs and has duties involving media relations and other communications activities, event coordination, public policy, both, local and national brand recognition and advocacy and general fundraising campaigns.
Essential functions and responsibilities:
Oversees the assessment, development and implementation of Devereux’s strategic plan for communications and public relations;
Manages media relations announcements, editorial placement, and speaking opportunities;
Suggest promotional campaign ideas in various types of media as well as counsels Corporate and Center Management on effective communication strategies, including written, printed and photographed materials;
Prepares, reviews and/or consults on written and verbal communications about Devereux;
Creates and disseminates community and national press releases, as well as special publication projects including, but not limited to the Annual report;
Works collaboratively with Corporate and Center Development staff to create both local and national brand recognition;
Interacts with Executive Management, Center Management and Corporate Staff to plan and develop promotional public relations responses and program materials;
Assist SVP for External Affairs in implementing strategic plan to make Devereux the “charity of choice” for individuals, corporations, foundation and public sources;
Assists in provision of technical assistance, research and guidance to internal and external customers, including Advisory Boards;
Will assist in maintaining contact with prospective donors and carrying out strategies to secure/or increase donations, attend events and meetings to represent Devereux;
Will assist with donor research, grant proposal development and the stewardship of charitable donations;
Supports the development function in the implementation of all special events, assigned committees and special projects;
Develops tracks and coordinates internal and external communications critical to networking and development.
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing or related field; Master’s degree preferred;
Additional training in crisis communication, time management and advanced graphic design;
Minimum of (5) five years of professional experience in related field such as communications, fundraising, public relations, resource-development, public policy, sales and/or marketing, special events in a Human Services environment;
Demonstrated experience and skills in executive and proposal presentations is required;
Experience in large multi-site or national healthcare environment is preferred;
Expertise in project and organizational management and a background in fundraising, event planning, public relations, professional sales, and/or marketing are highly desired with previous direct work in civic affairs/management, public policy, governmental relations/consulting essential;
Experience managing multiple projects and events, designing market materials, including online media;
Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Computer skills and proficiency in the use of MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, database management and publishing and presentation software;
Must be creative, enjoy meeting new people and managing multiple projects;
